Women in Science
Women in Science as part of the Geo-INQUIRE project is committed to promote gender equality in research and innovation. One of our key initiatives – Women in Science – highlights the persistent gender disparities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields and aims to raise awareness, share experiences, and support early-career female researchers.
To better understand these challenges, we launched an international online survey during the 2024 Geo-INQUIRE Summer School held on 21–25 October in Corinth, Greece. The questionnaire, completed by 45 male and female participants, provided valuable insights into gender bias, work-life balance difficulties, and underrepresentation of women in leadership roles. Despite these obstacles, many respondents pointed to the importance of supportive work environments, visible female role models, and systemic institutional changes.
Selected findings and personal reflections were showcased on a dedicated poster, which was presented during the Geo-INQUIRE Summer School in Corinth. The poster offered an analysis of the current situation of women in STEM and highlighted the need for this initiative. Short video interviews with female scientists were prepared. A QR code linking to these interviews was placed directly on the poster, making the material easily accessible to viewers.

Additionally, a leaflet titled “Good Practices to Support Women in Science” was created, summarizing key recommendations to promote gender equality and inclusivity in STEM. It covers areas such as work-life balance, addressing bias, equal opportunities, career development, visibility, policy engagement, inclusive culture, and progress monitoring.
